It looks like we're about to see the beginning of a new DVD standard called "Blu-Ray". Basically it's a blue-laser DVD Reader/Writer that uses the blue-laser lower wavelength for additional accuracy and expanded disc space (27gb).

And for once, this initiative is being pushed by nine major manufacturers so it pretty much looks like a done deal. If all goes according to plan, devices may be out by 2003/2004.

Click here for the official press release.

February 18th, 2002.

I have posted 2.50 beta 2 on the forum.

This version mainly adds user requested features. However, I also took the time to finally rewrite the Multi-Track AVI Audio code, so hopefully it should work more reliably now.

Somehow the articles section on this page vanished. It's back up now.

February 11th, 2002.

While the U.S. has finally releases the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 4 has already been announced in Europe. The thing is, due to syndication rights, most likely, this season won't be sold in the U.S. for at least 3-4 years. Such a shame.

In other release news, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone has been announced for a May 28th release date. And after the European announcement, the U.S. release of Star Trek The Next Generation - Season 1 has been announced for a March 26th release date.

And finally, The 10th Kingdom a 7 hour 30 minutes charming mini-series had it's price slashed to $11.99. Quite a good buy if you're a fantasy fan.

February 9th, 2002.

I have written a new advanced video capturing/processing article dealing with IVTC, Field Matching (Used in PAL Phase Shifting) using AVISynth. It deals with syntax, AVI/VCD/SVCD encoding, speed and more, read it here:

January 16th, 2002.

I've been putting it off for a long while due to the Zoom Player development, but I have finally taken the time to update the Overscan article to reflect all the changes in technology since it's original conception.

This updated article touches a bit on ATI cards, goes more deeply into TVTool and finally addresses Zoom Player. Considering I wrote Zoom Player over a year ago in order to finally make the changes the article originally mentioned, it's rather pathetic of me not to have updated it sooner. But in any case, go read, now!

The site restructuring is complete, you shouldn't really notice any changes, but if you notice any broken links/images, feel free to contact me.

On a different matter, I would like to mention my disgust at C|Net's Download.com service. If you don't plan on paying them $200 to list your application, it will take them over a month to do so! Even worse, when you finally do get listed and want to update the listing to a newer version, it takes more than a month to do that!

For comparison, several other download sites take less than a day to update your software and will often host the files for you.

January 10th, 2002.

The site is going through an infastructure change so some links may be broken over the next couple of days.

January 9th, 2002.

The Forum is mostly working now, you can read and login and post threads. Even the registration mostly works.

And in a semi-related topic, Zoom Player v2.40 beta 1 has been posted ... you guessed it, on the forum.

Also, TheDigitalBits has a few nice images from the UK release of Star Trek : The Next Generation box set. They've really lined up an interesting casing and even have a showcase showing how all 7 seasons will line up on a shelf.
