Introduction to File Association

File association determines which application windows launches when double-clicking a file with a particular extension (for example ".mp3") in explorer or other file managers.

Windows v8 / v10 / v11 / v12

In recent versions of Windows, an Admin account or User Account Control confirmation is required to use some of the features on the file association pages. In fact, In Windows 8 and newer, Microsoft actively prevents file association using 3rd party applications. In this case, a button at the bottom of the file association page can be used to open Microsoft's own file association interface.

Previous Windows versions

Zoom Player is very unobtrusive and will not automatically associate any specific file extension used by other software. Simply select the media file extensions and click on the "Save Associations" button to apply.

The association page can also be used to change icons for different file types. Simply click on any icon in the list and you will be prompted if you want that extension associated with the Zoom Player icon. If not, you will be allowed to pick an external icon file of your choice (may require admin rights or may not function in certain versions of Windows).

Select All Extensions

Clicking this button selects all available file extensions in the file extension association list.

Select Audio Extensions

Clicking this button selects all available audio file extensions in the file extension association list.

Select Video Extensions

Clicking this button selects all available video file extensions in the file extension association list.

Uncheck Selected Extensions

Clicking this button unchecks all available file extensions in the file extension association list.

Run Install Center

When clicked, the Zoom Player Install Center will execute and connect to the internet to look for missing or updated components required for media playback.
